Brian McAlinden, from Lurgan, took part in a thrilling ‘supermarket sweep’ style competition in his local Lidl store on Saturday, July 22.

In honour of Father’s Day 2023, Lidl Northern Ireland launched a special Father’s Day campaign asking families across the region to nominate the father figure in their life to be named Lidl Northern Ireland’s ‘Dad of the Year’, highlighting on social media the ‘Lidl’ things that make their dad so special.

Across the region, a total of six worthy dads – one in each county – were selected as Lidl Northern Ireland’s ’Dad of the Year’, giving them the opportunity to win an entire food shop as they took part in their very own ‘Daddy Dash.’

Brian took on Lidl Northern Ireland’s ‘Daddy Dash’ in his local Lurgan store over the weekend.

Nominated on social media by his wife Colette McAlinden, she acknowledged that Brian works around the clock, but still manages to put his family, including two girls Holly and Maisy, above everything else.

The worthy winner took on the two-minute timer to bag as many of the family’s favourite items as possible and walked away with a trolley worth £250.65.

Commenting on the ‘Daddy Dash’ competition, Lurgan Store Manager Simon Magowan said: “We were delighted to welcome the McAlinden family to the Lurgan store on Saturday morning as dad Brian took on the two-minute timer, taking home his entire shop for free!

“This was another fantastic family initiative by Lidl Northern Ireland, and it was great to see the energy in store as everyone had fun cheering on dad.”
