Hospitality hit hard as two more popular eateries close doors in Castleblayney and Cookstown

Corrigan's Kitchen, Castleblayney and the Gaslight Restaurant, Cookstown have both recently announced their closure

In what is becoming an all too regular occurrence, a number of eateries, popular with Co. Armagh folk, have recently announced their closure.

They are Corrigan’s Kitchen in Castleblayney and the Gaslight Restaurant in Cookstown.

In a statement released on Facebook last Wednesday, Corrigan’s Kitchen, which is based in the centre of the Co. Monaghan town – on West Street – said it was with a “heavy heart” they announced their closure after 12 years in business.

It read: “It is with a heavy heart that we share this news. Corrigan’s Kitchen has made the difficult decision to close its doors after 12 wonderful years.

“We would like to thank all of our customers throughout the years, we’ll miss you all dearly on the other side of the counter.”

Then on Friday, a similar statement was released by the owners of the Gaslight Restaurant, Cookstown.

“It’s with a heavy heart that I wish to inform you that the Gaslight has CLOSED with immediate effect. This decision has not been taken lightly but one in which I have taken to ensure my own health and wellbeing.

“The last nine months have been busy, and I wish to thank you all for your custom and support throughout. It means a lot, and it hasn’t gone unnoticed.

“Lastly, to our staff and chef, thank you for your loyalty and commitment over the last nine months. I wish you all the best for the future.

“In relation to gift vouchers, if you have a voucher for the Gaslight and you have not used it call to the restaurant between 3pm and 8pm this Sunday 28 April and we can sort.”

The two are the latest in a long line of popular businesses that have closed their doors, with Aghalee-based Clenaghans restaurant closing its doors for the final time only yesterday (Sunday).
