Tributes following passing of well-known Portadown man Bobby Jameson

Tributes have been paid following the passing of well-known and popular Portadown man, Bobby Jameson.

Mr Jameson, who owned Portadown Recycling and Skip Hire, was 72. He died peacefully at home on Thursday surrounded by his loving family.

He was the dearly loved husband of Heather, dear father of Julie-Ann, Timothy, Wesley, Bobby Junior and step father of David and Jonny, as well as a loving brother of Stuart, Lesley, Gail, Beverley, David, Doreen and the late Richard and John.

His funeral service will take place in Thomas Street Methodist Church on Sunday at 2pm followed by interment in Kernan cemetery.

Friends welcome at the family home on Friday between 3pm and 9pm and Saturday 1pm and 9pm.

Upper Bann MLA, Jonathan Buckley, said he was “saddened to learn the news this morning”.

“Bobby was a big character in Portadown,” he said. “A businessman, a football man, a community man and a family man. Thinking of the wider Jameson family at this very sad time.”

Portadown FC was a part of Mr Jameson’s life.

The club posted: “Everyone at Portadown FC is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former vice-chairman and director Bobby Jameson.

“Bobby is the brother of our chairman David Jameson and uncle of director David Jameson Junior – we pass on our sympathies to the entire Jameson family circle at this sad time.”

Tributes flooded in online, with one person saying they will miss Mr Jameson’s “knowledge, guidance and sense of humour”.

Another said: “So saddened to hear about Bobby …he would not have passed you and always liked a wee chat..”

One person commented: “Bobby was a great friend and neighbour, very sorry to hear of his death, with our deepest sympathy to all the family circle.”

Another wrote:“He was a gentleman who love a good chat and adored his family.”

Among the local football clubs paying tribute were Hanover FC who said Mr Jameson was “a great friend to our club for many years”.

Seagoe FC said: “The chairman, committee, management, players and members of Seagoe football club are saddened to hear about the death of Bobby Jameson uncle of our reserve team manager Jeff Crowe. Bobby and the Jameson family have been long term sponsors of our club and we send our deepest sympathy to the entire Jameson family at this very sad time.”

Ridgeway Mill Youth FC added: “The thoughts of everyone at Ridgeway Mill Youth FC are with our team sponsor David Jameson (iota) after the recent passing of his Uncle, Bobby Jameson. Our deepest sympathy and condolences extend also to the wider family circle at this extremely sad and difficult time.”
