Over 1,000 food parcels now delivered to those most in need in Newtownhamilton area

Over 1,000 food parcels have now been delivered in the Newtownhamilton area to help people during the coronavirus pandemic.

The Department for Communities Covid-19 Food Parcel Scheme has been hugely successful in getting immediate food and essential supplies to those most in need.

To date, 825 boxes have been processed through Newtownhamilton Community Centre and have been delivered by members of Newtownhamilton Community Association, St Michael’s GFC and local volunteers.

An additional 250 food bags, which have been administered by Newtownhamilton Community Association, have also been distributed throughout the community.

It brings the total number of food parcels distributed in the area to 1,075.

A spokesperson for Newtownhamilton Community Association said: “This is tremendous work from all our volunteers.

“Everyone has been really appreciative that we can support them like this and are amazed at the quality, variety and quantity of the food they received. It has been a bittersweet job for all involved.

“The spirit and togetherness of people across the area is unquestionable and it’s fantastic to see everyone working together.

“We’ll continue to support those who require food provision and ensure they receive food and supplies they need over coming days and weeks.”
