Concerns have been raised at the pace of which safety improvement works on the A1 is being carried out.
Despite welcoming the significant work ongoing at present, SDLP MLA for Upper Bann Dolores Kelly, said you cannot put a price on public safety for the full completion of works.
“The SDLP have been consistent in rising the dangers posed by the A1, as certain parts of the road have proven to be treacherous,” Ms Kelly explained.
“All works to ensure the safety of road users are most welcome.
“However, despite the Permanent Secretary claiming the A1 is a priority for them, the pace of works is concerning.
“It is extremely disappointing that full completion of the A1 development is subject to funding. Quite simply, you cannot put a price on public safety.
“I would urge the Department to source and allocate money to see this development through as soon as possible.”
