Georgian Day light show to return as council goes to tender for ‘spectacular’ event

It’s only May but plans are already underway for this year’s Georgian Day in Armagh.

The showcase of all things festive attracted over 20,000 visitors to Armagh last year.

And one of the highlights is undoubtedly the fantastic light show which is played out with the Market House as the shimmering canvas.

This year will be no different and Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council is planning for the light show to return.

Last year’s offering was styled as ‘Twas the Light Before Christmas’ and in 2014 it was ‘A Winter’s Tale’.

Now the council has gone out to tender and is seeking to award a tender for the big show.

A budget of between £20,000 and £22,000 is being set.

It is looking to appoint a company to “create a spectacular, family orientated, Christmas-themed light show”.

The remit is that the show should last between 15 and 20 minutes and it will be screened four times on the day – the first being an hour later than last year, at 5pm, then 6pm, 7pm and 8pm.

The tender also states that the successful company will be tasked: “To deliver a high quality experience to visitors in Armagh on Georgian Day. To reflect Armagh’s brand principles and incorporate various elements of the overall Christmas campaign.”

It also stipulates that “the production of this light show must generate positive PR for Armagh City”.

Georgian Day this year will take place on Saturday, November 26, and the closing date for companies wishing to be considered for the light show is May 20.
