Football clubs pay tribute to gifted Dungannon player Adam who passed away suddenly

His brother led tributes to the dad-of-one - who was laid to rest on Thursday - describing him as someone 'who just lived for the craic'

Football clubs across the Armagh and Tyrone areas have paid tribute to a gifted player who passed away suddenly last week.

Adam Colbert, of Killyman Road, Dungannon, died on (Saturday), December 30.

His funeral was held at his home today (Thursday) at noon followed by interment in Cottagequinn Cemetery.

Adam was the loving dad of Ria, the precious son of Karl and Olive and treasured brother of Gary and Philip. He was also the brother-in-law of Lesley-Anne and much loved uncle of Ethan, Logan and Margo.

His brother Phil took to Facebook to thank all who had expressed their condolences, saying: “We will always remember him as that nutcase who just lived for the craic.”

He added: “His biggest achievement in life is his beautiful daughter Ria, who he adored.”

Among the clubs that Adam had played for, the first to pay tribute on social media was the Dungannon Tigers, who said: “Everyone at The Tigers are shocked and saddened by the news of the sudden death of past player Adam Colbert. We offer our condolences to the family at this very sad time.”

Augher Stars FC said: “It’s with heavy hearts the club learnt of the sudden passing of Adam Colbert. Adam was a talented footballer who had a spell with club last season. RIP.”

Dungannon Rovers FC added: “The club would like to take the time to send our condolences to the Colbert family on the untimely passing of Adam. A former player, Adam made over 100 appearances during his time at the Rovers. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family circle at this difficult time.”

Sands United FC said: “All of us at Sands United Dungannon are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Adam Colbert. Adam played for us in some of our early charity games. He was a great lad and footballer. Condolences to his family, friends and all who knew him. Please reach out and talk if you’re struggling in any way. RIP Adam.”
