A proposal to host a huge jobs fair to promote every vacancy in the borough is due to go before the ABC Council.
And the event, which it is hoped would be held before the end of June, would also coincide with a major recruitment drive for a number of national employers due to open premises in Banbridge in July and August.
Jobs Fairs are popular but nothing new and are usually geared at certain employment fields, such as health, education or manufacturing.
But this event – currently only a proposal – would cover EVERY available job in the borough!
Since a successful ‘Skills for Business’ breakfast held in December 2015, council officers have developed strong working links with a range of stakeholders in the ’employability and skills development’ sector.
And after recent discussions with Job Centre managers and the employer contact team for the area, officers are proposing a jobs fair “with the aim of promoting all vacancies available within our borough”.
Officers are due to meet with the Department of Employment and Learning’s employer contact manager to discuss hosting the event, which will coincide with a large scale recruitment drive to be launched by two national employers opening in Banbridge.
The DEL team has indicated it is keen to work with the council and will organise and promote the proposed jobs fair as a major regional event to maximise the impact across the borough for both jobseekers and local employers.
It has been estimated that the fair would cost up to £6,000 and councillors will be asked tonight (Tuesday) to approve the expenditure at a meeting of the economic development and regeneration committee.
The money would be to cover the cost of the event – including hiring a venue and refreshments – and the decision would have to be ratified at the full sitting of council later this month.
