Banbridge restaurant owners ‘stepping back’ as wider hospitality industry suffers

Clubhouse Grill Banbridge

The owners of a Banbridge restaurant say they “need to take a break” as the cost-of-living crisis and wider hospitality malaise deepens.

The Clubhouse Grill – based at the Banbridge Golf Club – says it will serve its last meal later today (Sunday).

Announcing the “shocking” news on their social media on Saturday, owners Christopher Zak and Marta Leksander, said they were “immensely grateful for the support we have received from members and regular visitors”.

Their decision, they said “is mainly motivated by the fact that this time we put the family first, and as you know, our head chef is expecting a baby.”

“Also, the current cost of living crisis, difficulties within the wider hospitality industry regarding attracting good chefs/staff, price increases that are difficult to cover, etc, it has come to a point when we need to take a break. We will miss the people and the work as at this stage we are going on a long and well-deserved holiday.

“We will finish up on Sunday, September 25. Feel free to visit The Clubhouse Grill for the Carvery Dinner possibly the last time this year. Perhaps, we said “the end” now, although that does not mean that you will not see us in gastronomy in the future …

“One more time, THANK YOU for a very successful FOUR years…Chris and Marta, The Clubhouse Grill Team.”
