Job Title: Digital Journalist

Location: Armagh

Salary: £16-20k (dependent on experience)

Armagh I are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for a full-time Digital Journalist to join our expanding team.

This is an ideal opportunity to kickstart your career in journalism, or maybe take it to the next level. It will be your chance to get your teeth stuck into local issues.

The role will be based in Armagh and the ideal candidate will be NCTJ-qualified (or equivalent) or have at least one or two years experience in a newsroom. We will consider applicants working towards their full qualification.

It will be advantageous to have a rounded knowledge of the local area, as well as an interest in sport.

There will be an emphasis on producing and editing video for our various digital platforms.

We are a fast-paced daily online media outlet, serving a community in excess of 200,000 readers each month, across Co Armagh, Banbridge, Newry, as well as our diaspora across the world.

The right person for this job will be someone who has a passion for news, is outgoing and can work independently. Much of the role will be spent outside an office environment, and will include occasional evening and weekend work. Part-time hours applications will be considered for job share.

Responsibilities

Source and produce engaging digital content/imagery/video

Conduct research and interviews

Help grow our social media channels: Facebook; Twitter; YouTube; Instagram; and Snapchat

As well as networking in the area you will be expected to engage our digital communities

Attend court and council meetings as well as public events

Follow leads and pitch your own content ideas

Understanding digital policies and guidelines

Adhering to IPSO code of conduct

Essential Criteria

Good communication and digital skills

NCTJ-qualified or 1-2 years experience in a news environment

Sharp news sense and proofreading ability

Social media savvy

Accuracy and reliability

Full driving licence and own car

Desirable Criteria

Video editing skills (Premiere Pro or similar)

Design experience (Adobe Creative Suite)

Content Management System experience (Wordpress, Escenic, or similar)

SEO knowledge

Local knowledge

Understanding of media law and IPSO Code of Conduct
