Tandragee see off challenge of Blackers Mill

Tandragee Rovers 4 Blackers Mill 0

Premier Cup Round 1

TANDRAGEE Rovers began the defence of the Premier Cup with a comfortable 4-0 win over Blackers Mill although they were pushed all the way by Mark Kerr’s young side.

Blackers Mill started quickly and clearly had the better of the opening exchanges. Tandragee began to get a foothold in the match and gradually forced the visitors on the defensive.

Tandragee were posing an attacking threat down the left with Jamie Rooney and AJ Gallagher linking up well. These two were involved in Tandragee’s opening goal, Rooney played the ball up the line to Gallagher, he twisted and turned his marker before swinging in cross which Paul Greenaway stooped to head home at the near post.

Greenaway had the chance to double Tandragee’s lead moments later but he dragged his shot wide from 10 yards out. Tandragee did however increase their lead 10 minutes later when AJ Gallagher intercepted a defensive pass to run through one on one with the keeper and he made no mistake shooting low into the bottom right corner.

Tandragee went 3-0 up shortly after the break. The dangerous Gallagher was fouled on the edge of the penalty box and Jamie Uprichard stepped up to score from the resulting free kick.

Gerald Magee completed the scoring towards the end of the match after a quick free kick from Mark Bicker but in between these goals Tandragee had further chances to score through Cecil Corbett and Mark Bicker.

Gary Whiteside almost made it five before the final whistle but his long range shot crashed off the cross bar.

It was a full blooded cup tie with good passing, movement and quality play from both sides. Tandragee’s man of the match award went to Jamie Rooney.

Team: Daniel Rowney, Scott Walker, Jamie Rooney, Colin Bingham, Gary Whiteside, Gerald Magee, Jamie Uprichard, Mark Bicker, Paul Greenaway, Cecil Corbett, AJ Gallagher. Subs: Conall Fox, Chris Jeffers, Dean Singleton.
