Tandragee progress in Mid-Ulster Cup

Mid Ulster Cup Round 1

TANDRAGEE Rovers progressed into Round 2 of the Mid Ulster Cup with a 3-2 home win against Moneyslane.

It was the proverbial game of two halves at Madden Road with the hosts on top for the first 45 minutes, but very much on the back-foot for the second, as Moneyslane pushed them all the way to the final whistle.

Tandragee opened the scoring early on with a Cecil Corbett goal. Mark Bicker played a short corner to Scott Walker, his deep cross was headed back by Paul Greenaway, into the path of Corbett who headed into the top corner.

Tandragee almost stretched their lead but Mark Bicker’s powerful header from a Gerdy Magee cross was pushed over the bar by the ‘Slane keeper.

Moneyslane equalised when a corner deceived the Rovers defenders on the line and went straight into the net.

Tandragee regained the lead from the restart. Gary Whiteside picked up a loose ball in midfield before releasing Cecil Corbett, he pulled the ball back to Paul Greenaway from the by-line but as his shot was blocked the ball fell to the feet of Jamie Uprichard who made no mistake from 10 yards.

Rovers had claims for a penalty when Cecil Corbett was dragged to the ground but the ref waved away their appeals before they scored a third goal.

Corbett showed great determination to win the ball back on the edge of the box before releasing AJ Gallagher on the left, he cut in on goal before squaring the ball to Paul Greenaway to tap home.

The second half was a more scrappy affair in which Moneyslane had the better of. They showed more fight and determination while Tandragee were very much second best.

Moneyslane pulled a goal back with 10 minutes to go again from a corner which set the game up for a tense finish.
