Works call amid safety fears at deteriorating Whitecross road

The continuing deterioration of the Cold Brae Road in Whitecross is causing grave concerns for local people and a meeting with senior road officers is being planned on site to discuss the issue.
Sinn Féin Councillor Barra Ó Muirí has said the situation is not new and unfortunately has been ongoing for quite a few years.
“Previous assurances that there would be work done to improve the situation have not been honoured,” he said.
“Residents of the Cold Brae Road have contacted me this week to tell of the condition worsening. During the frost, part of the road wore away.
“This led to an incident last weekend where a jeep overturned off the road. Fortunately the jeep didn’t overturn on the other side of the road, where a deep sheough matches the road.
“I share the fear of many locals  that it is only a matter of time before someone is seriously hurt on this road, unless action is taken by Roads Service.”
The councillor confirmed he had requested to meet Roads Service on site to discuss the safety fears and to agree a way forward.
“This meeting will take place at the next area multi-agency meeting in early February,” he added.
