Very firm demand in all rings at Markethill

THERE was a very good entry of 360 cattle at Markethill on Tuesday (July 30) which sold in another very firm demand in all rings.

Dairy stock sold to £1650 for a calved heifer from a Kilkeel farmer.  An entry of maiden heifers sold from £570 to £680 each.

The 40 lots of sucklers returned a very good demand selling to £1200 for a Saler heifer and bull calf.  Other good quality outfits sold from £980 to £1075.

CULL COWS

The 80 cull cows sold in an exceptionally good trade.  Beef cows to £170 for 670k at £1140 and up to £1305 for 800k (163).  Main demand from £135 to £166 per 100 kilos.  Friesian cows from £105 to £130 for 740k at £965.  Young Friesian cows to £137 for 690k at £945.  Second quality cows from £85 to £100 per 100 kilos with the poorest quality from £57 to £75 per 100 kilos.  Young bulls to £185 for 740k at £1370.

Aged bulls to £1400 for 1060k Simm (132).  Friesian bulls to £130 for 1020k at £1330.

Reared bulls sold from £510 to £760 and heifers to £485.
