Teenagers in court after police find two men inside property

Brownlow Neighbourhood Policing Team arrested and charged two males following a burglary at a house in Hillcrest Mews during the early hours of Thursday, 14 November.

Police were called to the area following a report of windows being broken and detained two males inside the property.

A 16 year old male was charged with burglary and criminal damage and appeared before Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 15 November.

An 18 year old male was charged with burglary and will appear before Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 6 December.

As is normal procedure the charge will be reviewed by the PPS.

Sgt Alwyn Peters, Brownlow NPT, said: “We were able to apprehend two offenders due to a timely report of suspicious activity. We continually ask the community for their support and this shows how successul we can be at tackling crime when we work in partnership.”

Meanwhile Portadown Neighbourhood Policing Teams are reminding the local community to secure their personal belongings when they are taking part in leisure activites.

The reminder follows a number of incidents where phones and cash have been stolen from changing rooms in gym premises and items were taken from an unattended golf bag on a local golf course.

Constable Sinton, Portadown NPT, explained: “In a number of these incidents the stolen items were left on display or were in open bags or coat pockets which were unsecured in changing rooms.

“It is vital that you take steps to protect your property. All valuables should be locked away out of sight in a secure locker. If this is not feasible, valuables should be brought with you or kept on your person into the facilities.

“Thieves are opportunist and will take full advantage of insecure phones, wallets and other valuables.”

If you would like further advice on personal security please contact your local neighbourhood team or crime prevention officer on 0845 600 8000.
