Tasty idea?: Vacant Xtra-Vision store to be redeveloped just months after closure

The former Xtra-Vision premises in Armagh could soon be redeveloped and given a new lease of life, Armagh I can reveal.

There are plans in the pipeline for the vacant unit – at Lonsdale Court – to be converted into a new pizza restaurant and takeaway.

An application to allow the development to proceed has been submitted to Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council for planning consideration.

It is due to be publicly advertised next week.

The new business plan has been drawn up under the name of the Pie Face Pizza Company.

It would operate six days a week – noon to 10pm, Tuesday to Thursday, noon until midnight Friday and Saturday, and 2pm until 7pm on Sundays.

The new restaurant and takeaway would be manned by one full-time staff member and four part-time employees.

The site already boasts shared car parking with the neighbouring off-licence.

There will be a service area directly inside the front of the premises separated from an inner core of tables with a handrail dividing.

A decision on whether or not to allow the development to proceed would be expected within a matter of months.

The Xtra-Vision shop in Armagh closed at the end of January. It had been popular with movie rental fans since the 1980s but it and a number of others were announced for closure the previous November.

The premises had previously been advertised for sale and the focus will now be on having the unit brought back into productive use.

It would be the second hot food outlet on the busy Lonsdale Road, sitting, as it does, a short distance from the KFC drive-thru restaurant.
