State-of-the-art campsite and outdoor pursuits venue in heart of south Armagh

Outdoor pursuits will be well and truly catered for if an ambitious new development nestled in the heart of beautiful south Armagh goes ahead.

A new campsite – if given planning approval – will be a huge addition to the local area, as it is aimed at giving visitors the chance to enjoy a taste of adventure.Camlough lake

Kayaking, mountain biking and angling would be on offer at the new development, overlooking one of south Armagh’s most breathtaking assets – Camlough Lake.

Six camping pods – taking the form of log-style cabins – would be constructed, each with its own parking port alongside.

There would be provision for half a dozen tent pitches too.

An application for the development has this week gone to Newry, Mourne and Down District Council for consideration.

The site – bounded by trees – overlooks the lake, located along the Newtown Road in Camlough.

The recent drive in south Armagh is all geared towards tourism and bringing in visitors to this area.

And this would do just that – allowing users to experience a taste of the great outdoors in an idyllic setting.

Campers – whether renting pods or choosing to sleep out under canvas – will have use of a communal common room.

Alongside the pods the youngsters would have access to a new children’s play area.

All mod cons are included – kitchen, showers, toilets and laundry facilities.

A tackle and sports equipment hire shop will be central to the overall plans – with a café also included.

If all goes according to plan, visitors would be able to hire canoes, mountain bikes, fishing gear and more – or simply bring their own!

Plans for the development have been drawn up by a local architect on behalf of Karl Toner, currently resident in Sydney, Australia!

There have been exciting plans in the pipeline for around Camlough Lake for some considerable time.

And such a facility as this – if given the go-ahead – would certainly add significantly to the overall tourism offering in the region.
