Funeral on Sunday for father-of-one who died in tragic car park accident

Loughlin Maginn

The funeral of a County Down man, who died tragically in an accident in Rathfriland earlier this week, will take place on Sunday.

Loughlin Maginn died after he became trapped under his car when it rolled a short distance after being parked in a car park shortly before 12.30pm on Wednesday afternoon.

The 39-year-old Warrenpoint man was the partner of Keighra and a devoted daddy to Megan.

Loughlin was a talented chef and worked at Fergusons Bar and Bistro near Gyles Quay in Dundalk.

A post from owners, Niall and Claire Ferguson, paid tribute to their colleague and friend.

“Loughie will be greatly missed by all the staff, customers and visitors of Fergusons Bar & Bistro and Gyles Quay Caravan Park.

“Loughie built a renowned reputation in the Cooley Peninsula and beyond over the last two years and more recently with the launch of GQ Pizzas that serviced us all during lockdown.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to his partner Keighra, daughter Megan, Mrs Maginn, brothers, Sister and wider family circle.

“You will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing you. You’ll be forever in our thoughts. RIP Loughie.”

Bartłomiej Błański at the Rostrevor Inn, where Loughlin also worked for a period, also paid tribute to a “good friend”.

“On behalf of everyone at the Rostrevor Inn we would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the family of Loughlin Maginn, who died in tragic circumstances.

“Loughie was head chef here for two years and in that time not only earned respect for his talent and dedication but became a good friend to staff and customers alike.

“He will be greatly missed. Our thoughts and sympathies are with his daughter, mother and siblings.”

Loughlin was the much-loved son of Maureen and the late Loughlin, step-son of Jim Murnin, loving brother of Jenny, Ryan, Grace, Shay, Conan and Lee, brother-in-law of Patrice, Grace’s partner Chris and Keighra parents Brendan and Ann Dunlevy.

Loughie will leave his home, 4 Carrickree Mews, Warrenpoint on Sunday at 11.30am for private cremation in Lakelands Crematorium, Cavan.

Sadly due to the current health crisis and public health recommendation, House and Funeral are strictly private.

Family Flowers only. Donations in lieu of flowers if desired to Air Ambulance N.I c/o Peter McGinn Funeral Director, 41 Leitrim Road, Hilltown, BT34 5XS.
