Shops ‘Spruce Up’ Scheme for Tandragee and Markethill

Armagh City and District Council’s Shop Spruce Up Scheme has been extended to Tandragee and Markethill.

The news has been welcomed by Independent Unionist Councillor Paul Berry.

He told Armagh I: “I am delighted that following discussions through Council that the Shop Spruce Up Scheme has been extended to these two popular and busy towns in the district.

“This Spruce Up Grant Scheme is for commercial businesses in the towns and there is a grant of up to £750 for minor works to enhance the Shop frontages. Many businesses availed of this a number of years ago and it was of great help to those who were successful as I know that it helped them improve their business image.

“I constantly remind officials in Armagh City and District Council that whilst they focus much on Armagh City they will not be allowed to forget the rural towns such like Tandragee and Markethill as these rural towns are the backbone of our economy and indeed through tough economic times they have managed to keep their doors open without little help from others.

“I have been assured by the Regeneration Officer that adverts have been placed in local papers but that she will also be calling with businesses to keep them informed of the opportunity available.

“I would encourage businesses to apply for this Spruce Up Scheme and whilst every application will be assessed I would remind them that the closing date is the March 5, 2014. If businesses have any queries they can call me and I will be happy to assist in anyway possible.”
