Young players from Annagh United FC in Portadown will be doing their bit for the community this weekend when they take part in a 10-kilometre litter pick.

Around 30 members of the under-15s and under-17s will be donning their fluorescent bibs and, armed with litter picks, will be clearing the grass verges along sections of the Tandragee Road, Markethill Road, Derryhale Road and Armagh Road.

The clean-up, which will take place on Sunday, May 28, will start from the club on the Tandragee Road and finish with some well-earned lunch.

Coach Michael Willis came up with the idea when he was out for a cycle and was struck by the amount of rubbish along the route.

He said the project was also about camaraderie and building awareness about littering.

Any sponsorship money raised on the day will go towards strips and a trip to a tournament in Wales and England in August.

Other coaches involved in organising the clean-up are Stephen Shortt and Seamus Heath (under-17s) and Jackson Holmes and Gerry Mallon ( under-15s).

The club has thanked all the businesses, groups and individuals who have supported them in their fundraising efforts.
