A number of properties were evacuated

Emergency services have been attending the scene of what is believed to have been a gas explosion in Portadown.

A number of properties were evacuated in the Corcrain area of the town.

Personnel from the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service raced to the scene and the area was cordoned off.

Locals have spoken of hearing an explosion late this afternoon.

DUP Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart said there had been no reports of anyone having been seriously injured, but rather left “a little shaken”.

She has thanked the NIFRS and PSNI for “their swift response” and said the area has now returned to normal.
