Police hunt man who made suspicious approach to girl (12)

Police in Newcastle tonight appealed for help in tracing a man after reports of a suspicious approach to a 12-year-old girl yesterday morning (Thursday).

The incident happened in the Castlewellan Road area at around 8.30am.

The man police are seeking is described as being in his 40s, of heavy build, with short black receding hair with grey in it.

He was about five feet six or seven inches tall and was wearing a brown padded coat, with rips on the arms and on the front, brown trousers, with rips on both legs, and brown boots.

Police said the man approached the child and “made remarks that frightened her”.

Detectives in Newcastle are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has any information to get in touch on the non-emergency number, 101. Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.
