Over 1,400 homes left without power after major equipment fault

Alderman says engineers are working to repair damage

A major power cut is affecting hundreds of homes across the wider Armagh area.

Upwards of 1,400 properties have been left without electricity.

It is understood that an equipment fault has led to the blackout.

Homes and businesses have been hit across many areas including parts of Armagh, Richhill, Hamiltonsbawn, as well as Tandragee, Laurelvale and into Portadown.

NIE is aware of the fault and engineers have been tasked to deal with the situation.

DUP Alderman Gareth Wilson has been assured that power will be restored as soon as possible.

It has been estimated that all should be restored by around 10pm tonight.
