Over 30,000 positive cases and 15 further Covid-related deaths reported since New Year’s Eve

The total number of deaths now stands at 2,995 – 20 of which occurred in the last seven days.

There has been 15 further Covid-related deaths reported in Northern Ireland since New Year’s Eve.

Five of these deaths are said to have occurred during the current reporting period, between midnight on December 30 and January 3.

The ABC Borough accounts for 403- up one – of those deaths. There have been 226- up three- in the NMD district, while Mid Ulster accounts for 279.

There have been a further 30,423 positive cases recorded in Northern Ireland, between midnight on December 30 and January 3, according to the Department of Health’s latest daily dashboard update.

Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon have had a further 3,219 positive cases- the third highest in NI. There were 3,095 cases in Newry, Mourne and Down while Mid-Ulster recorded 2,609. Belfast – the highest in NI – recorded 4,969 positive cases.

There are 348 – up 34 – patients in hospitals across Northern Ireland as a result of the virus, 31 – down three – of whom are in intensive care units.

Currently, there are 91 –up 11 – Covid patients in the Southern Trust area, 56 – up three – of whom are in Craigavon Area Hospital.

There are six ICU beds available across Northern Ireland.

Hospital occupancy in Northern Ireland currently stands at 105%.
