Further six Covid-19 deaths recorded in past 24 hours

There have been a further six coronavirus-related deaths in Northern Ireland.

The Department of Health (DoH) daily statistics shows the death toll now standing at 482, all of which occurred in the last 24 hours.

On Friday, the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (Nisra) published their weekly figures showing that 599 deaths had been recorded, up to May 8.

Nisra figures record all deaths where Covid-19 is mentioned on a death certificate.

Meanwhile, trade union Unison has welcomed the news testing in care homes will be carried out on all residents and staff.

Regional Secretary Patricia McKeown said: “From the early stages of this crisis, our message to the minister and the wider executive was clear and that was that we needed to test, test, test.

“We will now engage with the Department of Health in order to clarify precisely how testing will be conducted and when this programme will commence.

“We will be urging that universal testing be implemented as soon as possible.”
