Eighty-eight new Covid cases reported in 24 hours

There have been a further 88 positive cases of coronavirus reported across Northern Ireland in the past 24 hours, according to the Department of Health.

It brings the seven day number to 577, with 174 in the Belfast council area and 76 in Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon.

The overall total of cases sits at 8,123.

There were no further deaths reported, meaning that total remains at 568.

There are currently 17 Covid-19 inpatients in Northern Ireland’s hospitals, with one in an intensive care unit.

Earlier today, NISRA reported four coronavirus-linked deaths in Northern Ireland last week.

It said the virus had featured on the death certificates of 876 people in total by 4 September.

The Department of Health’s daily figure for the same date was 564 – more than 300 fewer.
