Community vigilance has been urged after the latest in a spate of local burglaries targeting pensioners.
The most recent happened last Wednesday in Meigh.
Newry and Mourne Sinn Féin Councillor Liz Kimmins said it happened at around 6.30pm.
“Police are appealing for anyone with any information in relation to this specific crime, or indeed any others, to contact them,” she said.
The councillor also said news that two men had been charged on Saturday past with 59 charges linked to similar incidents in a number of areas, including South Down and Banbridge, would be welcomed by all.
She added: “It is important that those who are engaged in these cowardly crimes against, in particular, our elderly, are apprehended and face the full rigours of the law.
“I would ask the community to remain vigilant and look out for each other.”
