Warm tributes paid after sudden passing of senior Co Armagh clergyman

Rev Cyril Scott recalled some as a 'true friend' and 'lovely neighbour'

Deep sadness has been expressed following the passing of a senior County Armagh clergyman on Thursday.

Rev Cyril Scott, who dedicated much of his life to the local community, died suddenly at his home at Markethill.

He had been the senior minister at Cremore and Tyrone’s Ditches Presbyterian Church.

The Kirk Session at Cremore made the announcement on Thursday afternoon and expressed “deep sadness”.

Rev Scott was a highly-respected and well-renowned gentleman with many interests.

Shocked friends and parishioners have been recalling the minister on social media, many remembering his “hearty laugh”, others a “true friend” and a “lovely neighbour”.

One said he was a gentleman who had “time for everyone”, while others recalled visits made to residents at local nursing homes and hospitals, to sit with others, minister to them and enjoy fellowship and chat.

Rev Scott had been involved in Markethill Community Festival and only recently was delighted to be able to attend a special function for the annual presentation of proceeds to good causes.

He had taken part in services at church over the festive season.

His passing on Thursday has come as a huge shock within the area.

The Kirk Session has urged people to remember Rev Scott in their prayers in their time of loss.

Rev Scott is the dearly loved brother of Velma, Herbert, Margaret and Rodney.

His funeral service will take place in the First Markethill Presbyterian Church on Monday, December 31 at 12.30pm followed by a private Family interment in Banbridge New Cemetery.
