Friends of a Co. Armagh schoolgirl who tragically lost her life in a single-vehicle collision on Thursday have been paying tribute to a “beautiful young lady taken far too soon”.

Rachel Lowry passed away following the collision on the Coolmillish Road in Markethill shortly before 1pm.

The 17-year-old’s tragic passing has shocked an entire community, with friends leading the tributes to a hugely popular young woman.

Friend Kodie Milligan (pictured with Rachel below) last night posted: “Gone but will never be forgotten. R.I.P Rachel Lowry. Hard to believe I was standing talking to you last night and now your just gone, I love you loads and loads.”

Another friend posted: “Rest easy Princess, I love you so much.”

Others described Rachel as a gorgeous girl, an angel, and someone who will be sorely missed by many.

The Markethill girl was also a fast-rising star in the pipe band world and was a member of the Armaghbreague Pipe Band.

The Cleland Memorial Pipe Band, commented: “[We] are very sad to hear of the sudden and heartbreaking passing of Drum Major Rachel Lowry and cannot express our deepest sympathies to her family and all that had the privilege to know Rachel… Rest Easy Rachel.”

Markethill Ulster Unionist Councillor Gordon Kennedy, who was a neighbour, expressed his sympathies to the family.

Councillor Kennedy said: “I know the family well as they are neighbours of mine and it’s an absolute tragedy.

“My thoughts are also with those members of the public who helped at the scene. They and members of the emergency services did all they could to save her life.

“The local community will be thinking and praying for all those involved and their families.”
