Police have confirmed that the man who died in an accident near Markethill this afternoon was aged in his 60s.
And they have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
The tragic collision happened on the Bessbrook Road, near Markethill, just before 2.45pm.
A police spokesperson said the deceased died after a silver Seat Alhambra car left the road and struck a tree.
The road was closed for most of the afternoon but has now reopened.
Constable Mick Nee would ask anyone who witnessed the collision or has any information to contact the Collision Investigation Unit on 101 quoting reference 703 11/1/18.
