Cyril helps Team Ireland lift first medals at Special Olympics World Winter Games

Markethill athlete celebrating after taking silver on Austrian slopes

Markethill athlete Cyril Walker has helped Team Ireland to their first medals of the Special Olympics World Winter Games.

At the event in Austria, the 46-year-old – a member of the Skiability Special Olympics Club – took bronze in the AS Alpine Novice Giant Slalom.

Dublin teenager Laoise Kenny, from Dublin, took fourth place.

All three Intermediate skiers for Team Ireland also took medals.

Thirteen-year-old Caolan McConville, from Aghagallon in Co Armagh, and Co Wicklow’s Lorraine Whelan (36), both secured silver, while there was a bronze for 16-year-0ld Co Down athlete Sean McCartan.
