Man arrested on suspicion of possessing drugs with intent to supply

A man was arrested and later bailed after PSNI searches uncovered drugs on Friday.

The PSNI carried out a number of planned drugs searches in the Banbridge, Craigavon and Lurgan areas.

During these searches quantities of suspected herbal cannabis, cannabis resin, suspected controlled drugs and suspected white powder were recovered.

A 36-year-old man was arrested in the Lurgan area on suspicion of possession of Class B drug with intent to supply.

He was bailed pending further police enquiries.

Commenting on the searches, Chief Inspector Paul Reid said: “I know tackling the scourge of drugs is something the local community want us to focus on and these searches and arrest highlights our determination to do so.

“Police are committed to working with local communities to tackle the issues of drugs misuse and I would like to thank those members of the community who continue to support us in our efforts to stop this drain on our society.

“I would encourage everyone in the community to come to the Police with any knowledge they have about drugs use. Your information is vital to us. We will look into any report that we receive as we work with the community to reduce the harm caused by illegal drugs.

“Police can be contacted on the non-emergency number 101. Or information can be provided anonymously via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
