Man accused of chasing brother with knife and beating up dad granted bail

The 25-year-old is to wear an electronic tag and given a curfew

A Co Armagh man accused of trying to bite and beat up his own father has been granted bail.

Michael Redmond Doran, 25, of Wellington Street, Lurgan was appearing before the High Court via videolink from Maghaberry Prison to make a bail application on Thursday.

He is also accused of chasing his brother with a knife at the family home in Lurgan earlier this month.

Doran faces charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, possession of an offensive weapon with intent, and making threats to kill.

He is also accused of criminal damage to neighbouring cars and a front door during the same incident.

Police were called to the house on November 3 after a row had broken out, the court heard.

It is alleged the accused attacked his father, biting him on the hand as he fled from his son.

Defence counsel said Doran was carrying the knife in self-defence.

Judge Sir Richard McLaughin granted bail and imposed a curfew, electronic tagging and said Doran can only be released to an address considered suitable by police or the court.
