Police officer accused of making indecent images of children to face crown court trial

Craigavon Court

A PSNI constable accused of making indecent images of children will face crown court proceedings in December.

Robert Jason Ainscough, in care of PSNI Lurgan, appeared charged with 17 counts of making indecent photographs of children, 17 charges of possession of indecent photographs and 13 counts of misconduct in a public office.

Craigavon Magistrates’ Court heard on Friday that these offences were carried out whilst the 32-year-old was a constable in the PSNI.

The offences occurred on various dates between January 6, of 2015, and June, of the following year.

Defence counsel made no statement as a preliminary enquiry was held into the case.

Ainscough was told his case was being sent to Craigavon Crown Court on December 6 for arraignment.

It was heard that the defendant’s previous address had been in the Republic but that he had recently returned to this jurisdiction.

The case will continue on December 6.
