Man dies after being struck by train in Co Armagh

Motorists and pedestrians advised to take alternative route

A man has died after being struck by a train.

It happened at William Street in Lurgan after 8pm this evening.

Police in Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon said the closure followed an “incident”.

Fire crews and Northern Ireland Ambulance Service attended the scene.

The scene remains closed and motorists and pedestrians are being advised to seek alternative routes.

Diversions are in place.

Upper Bann Sinn Fein MLA John O’Dowd confirmed the tragic news.

He said: “There has been a tragedy at the rail crossing in William Street, Lurgan.

“The tragedy is not connected to the incident this morning which closed the lines for a while.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the deceased’s family as well as the railway staff caught up in the tragedy.”
