The lifeless body of Malcolm McKeown slumped across the seat of his car in a garage forecourt was discovered by two teenage boys, police have revealed.
The 54-year-old was shot six times to the body and head in broad daylight in Waringstown on Monday evening.
Police have described the murder as “barbaric and brutal” and have linked it to organised crime.
Detective Chief Inspector Pete Montgomery said: “To subject two teenage boys to witness and come across a body which has been shot six times is unthinkable.”
Speaking at a media briefing this afternoon, Mr Montgomery said: “This is something no child should ever have to witness, it’s simply unacceptable.
“CCTV footage shows Mr McKeown enter the garage at approx 7.15pm on Monday and walks back to car four minutes later.
“It is around this time I believe the gunman/gunmen shot him.
“I am keen to trace the driver of a dark blue/black VK Passat registration RK62 PLX.
“This was seen at 6.20pm in Cambrai Heights before the shooting. I believe the gunman/gunmen got out of this vehicle and shot Malcolm McKeown before fleeing via Cambrai Heights in this car at approx 7.20pm.
“Did you see this car leaving along the Dunkirk Road?”
The Passat was found burnt out in Glenavon Lane in Lurgan just after 7.30pm.
Mr Montgomery has asked if the public saw occupants get out of vehicle. Did they get into a dark coloured jeep and where did they go?
He added: “A strong line of inquiry is organised crime. A 28 and 30-year-old male is in currently in custody and two searches have been already been completed.
“This was absolutely brutal and barbaric, to carry this out in broad daylight, and to subject two teenage boys to witness and come across a body which has been shot six times is unthinkable.”
