Greggs to open first outlet – but by no means last – in our borough

Greggs bakery

Leading bakery chain Greggs is planning to open its first outlet in the borough.

It will be based at Newry Street in Banbridge.

Greggs – perhaps most famous for its sausage rolls – is planning a retail outlet and is recruiting a number of full and part-time positions ahead of opening.

Shift patterns will be between noon and 10pm.

And successful team members are promised generous benefits, including staff discount, free tea/coffee during shift breaks and 22 days holiday, rising to 26 after five years service, plus public holidays.

The company has given no indication as yet as to the opening date, but applications for the jobs are due to be returned this week.

Greggs opened the first of its outlets inside the new Applegreen Services Station on the M2.

It has since branched out with a number of stores in Belfast and is now understood to be planning a further opening at the Fairhill Shopping Centre in Ballymena.

The planned premises in Banbridge might be the first in this borough but it is understood it will by no means be the last.

Greggs began the year by revealing that it was planning to open around 50 stores across Northern Ireland, meaning a whole host of extra outlets will be expected in all parts over the next 15 months.

Greggs started out as a single bakery 65 years ago.

Today there are over 1,700 right across the UK and there are no plans of halting that expansion any time soon.
