Four teenagers remain in hospital after car lands on roof on Mahon Road

Two teenage friends injured in a road traffic collision in Portadown on Wednesday night remain in a critical condition in hospital this evening.

One of the boys has been transferred to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast.

The accident happened on the Mahon Road, about a mile from the town centre, at around 9.30pm on Wednesday.

Five young people – all understood to be aged between 16 and 18 years – were in the vehicle, which came to rest on its roof.

The area was cordoned off and emergency services rushed to the scene.

The Mahon Road remained closed in both directions throughout the night and was only reopened on Thursday afternoon.

In all three boys and two girls who were in the vehicle when it crashed were taken to Craigavon Area Hospital.

One boy remains in a critical condition in Craigavon tonight while the second, also described as critical, has been transferred to the Royal.

The third boy and one of the two girls injured are described as being stable in Craigavon Hospital, while the other girl has since been discharged.
