New car park to open at Craigavon Area Hospital from Tuesday

The new car park beside the GP Out of Hours at Craigavon Area Hospital will be open for patients, visitors and clients from this coming Tuesday.

The new car park, which will be pay on foot, replaces the reduced spaces in Car Park 1.

About 70 spaces remain in Car Park 1, and almost half of these will be for users with disabled badges.

Car Park 1 also has a new entrance and exit from the main avenue.

These changes in car parking will make way for the building of the new Paediatric Centre which is part of the overall plans to modernise hospital services for children and young people across the Southern Trust.

All planned paediatric surgery for the Southern area will be centralised in a new purpose designed centre on the sixth floor at Daisy Hill Hospital in Newry.

Work on the new Craigavon build also begins this week.

Welcoming the new development, Director of Children and Young People’s Services for the Trust, Paul Morgan said: “We are continually developing our services to meet the changing needs of our population and improving standards of care.  We are delighted to have completed the first stage of our enabling works to begin the building of our new centre. We have a dedicated and commitment paediatric team who are very excited at being able to offer families the highest standards of paediatric facilities across both of our acute hospitals.

“The new car parking arrangements are a big change for everyone using the hospital, but hopefully with the signage around the site and with the help of staff, we will all get used to the new arrangements quite soon”.

“We would like to thank patients, visitors and staff for their patience during the car parking works to date and would appreciate continued co-operation and for people to allow plenty of time for parking when visiting the site until the work is completed next year.”
