Main Street locked down following shooting incident in Waringstown

Police checkpoint night

The Main Street in Waringstown has been locked down following a shooting incident in the village this evening (Monday).

Police and armed response are on the scene tonight.

Diversions have been put in place and motorists are being advised to avoid the area.

Alliance councillor Eoin Tennyson tweeted: “Shocking reports of a shooting incident in the Main Street area of Waringstown.

“Main Street has been closed and diversions are in place. There is no place for guns on our streets. Truly appalling.”

DUP MLA Carla Lockhart pleaded with the public to give PSNI “the time and space to do their investigation”.

She added: “My thoughts and prayers are with the family affected by this incident. Anyone with information please let the police know on 101 number.”

There are no further details at this stage.
