Councillor condemns ‘horrendous’ arson attack on GAA player’s home

An arson attack on a home being constructed by a Crossmaglen GAA player has been branded “horrendous” by a local councillor.

Police have confirmed that the fire at the property on the Monog Road in Crossmaglen was being treated as malicious.

They have appealed for witnesses who were in the area between midnight on Saturday and 2.15am yesterday (Sunday) to come forward.

The house belonged to Crossmaglen player Danny O’Callaghan and those responsible have been condemned by local Sinn Fein Councillor Terry Hearty.

“This was an utterly horrendous attack and I unreservedly condemn it,” he said.

“I’d urge anyone with any information to bring it to the relevant authorities.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on the non-emergency number 101.
