Contractors invited to tender for new full size 3G pitch in Markethill

Work is expected to start later in the summer on a full size 3G pitch in Markethill, Armagh I can reveal.

The development is just one element of the Kilcluney Community Hub project, which also includes a new community hall and changing facilities.

Local Orange lodge Kilcluney LOL 132 is behind the plans, which are receiving support from a number of sources, including through the Social Development Fund and Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council.

At the recent monthly meeting of council, a project agreement document of a funding offer through the SIF – which is also supporting new clubroom development plans for Armagh Harps to the value of £1.1 million – showed a contribution towards the works of £428,845.

The overall scheme was also receiving agreed funding through Armagh City and District Council, as one of many legacy projects agreed for financial support before the council was formally wound up.

There is also of course funding from Kilcluney LOL itself which will see a major scheme for the Co Armagh town coming to fruition.

Kilcluney now has invited contractors to come forward for consideration for inclusion on a select list for for the full sized 3G pitch.

A shortlist of contractors will be compiled and invited to submit bids for the project.

Work will not get underway before July but will, when started, take up to three months to complete.

The estimated cost of the pitch development has been put at £450,000 and a deadline for receipt from contractors looking to be considered has been given for less than three weeks from now – Thursday, May 28.
