Construction on new Armagh Costa Coffee store to begin in weeks

Construction works are to commence for the new Costa Coffee shop at Spires Retail Park in Armagh in a few weeks time.

A contractor has been appointed today and works are due to take approximately twelve weeks to complete with works anticipated to be completed by the end of August

Councillor Thomas O’HanlonĀ said works were to start earlier in the year but understands “there have been some alterations made to the proposal to ensure as little disruption on site as possible during construction and indeed to ensure traffic flow around the site is appropriately managed when construction is completed”.

He added: “The Spires Retail Park in Armagh is extremely busy, however there have always been concerns around the lack of toilet provision at the site. A number of efforts have been made over the years to have the problem resolved however it has always proven very difficult to resolve. Toilets are included as part of this unit and they will be available for the use of the public.”

The existing tenants on the site are being updated today on the works schedule and it is hoped that disruption during construction will be kept to a minimum.

Costa is one of the worlds leading coffee outlets and they can only complement the exiting independent offering in the city and many people are looking forward to the development being completed.

Just a short distance away from the Spires Park we have the now completed, butĀ still empty, Tesco site.

Mr O’Hanlon added: “The popularity of the Spires Retail park proves there is a demand for such sites in Armagh and I know discussions are continuing with Tesco about the future of the site in Armagh.

“I have asked that the Council’s Chief Executive convene an urgent meeting of all the parties involved to ensure progress is made in relation to this site, the last thing we want tor need is to have this site vacant at a key gateway to our city.”
