Cannabis seized in three separate raids!

A LARGE quantity of drugs have been found during three searches by the PSNI in the Taghnevan area in recent weeks, the last coming just on Tuesday past (June 4).

Cannabis, cannabis plants, cultivation equipment and cash were uncovered during the raids in three different properties.

In the first inicident on May 16, Lurgan Neighbourhood Policing Team was conducting house to house enquiries in the Monbrief Walk area.

They noticed a strong smell of cannabis from a property.

“A subsequent search was conducted and a large sum of cash and quantity of herbal cannabis was recovered,” said a PSNI spokesperson.

On Thursday, 23 May, police conducted a planned search of a property at Richmount Gardens and discovered a quantity of cannabis, cannabis plants and cultivation equipment.

A 40-year-old man was arrested and later charged with possession of Class B drugs, cultivating cannabis and criminal damage.

He is expected to appear before Craigavon Magistrates’ Court today (Friday) June 7.

In the most recent incident officers conducted a planned search of another property in Richmount Gardens on Tuesday, June 4.

A quantity of herbal cannabis was recovered plus three cannabis plants were found growing in a tent.

A 44-year-old man was arrested for possession of Class B drugs, possession of Class B drugs with intent to supply, cultivation of cannabis and criminal damage. He was later released on bail pending further enquiries.

Constable McKenna, Lurgan NPT, said: “We are working in partnership with the local community and our partner agencies to tackle the issue of illegal drugs and this has resulted in the removal of cannabis from circulation on our streets.

“We would like to thank the local community for their support and stress the importance of reporting any suspicious activity. These three properties are in the heart of the community and we can only stop this type of criminal activity with the help of the community.
