Bottle assault treated as ‘hate crime’

AN attack in Portadown – where a man was hit in the face with a plastic bag containing a bottle – is being treated by police as a ‘hate crime’.

And the PSNI has now issued an appeal for witnesses to the assault, which happened in the Thomas Street area of the town shortly before 6pm on Saturday evening, to come forward.

The man was approached bya male assailant who spoke to him before hitting him with a plastic bag which contained a bottle. The victim sustained an injury to his face.

The attacker is described as being five feet seven inches tall, around 25-years-old, with shaved, blonde hair. He was wearing a white T-shirt, jeans and trainers.

Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to contact them on 0845 600 8000 or phone Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
