Man to face Crown Court on hijacking and dangerous driving allegations

A man facing allegations relating to hijacking and dangerous driving will face Crown Court proceedings.

All of the alleged offences occurred on December 29, of last year, the court was told.

The 33-year-old is also accused of assaulting and resisting a police officer.

Kieran George McCavana, of no fixed abode, appeared charged with hijacking, driving whilst disqualified, driving whilst unfit, assault on police and resisting police at Banbridge Magistrates’ Court, on Thursday.

As the charges were read out, it was outlined that all of the alleged offences occurred on December 29 on the Ballynabragget Road and the Tullyraine Road in Banbridge.

Appearing via videolink from Maghaberry, the defendant made no objection to the holding of a preliminary enquiry.

Prosecution submitted that based on the papers before the court there was a prima facie case to answer.

Defence barrister David McKeown made no contrary submissions.

District Judge Amanda Brady was satisfied there was a prima facie case to answer.

McCavana was remanded in custody to appear before Newry Crown Court on a date to be fixed.
