Police thank 100-year-old lady who challenged cold caller

Police in Armagh have thanked a 100-year-old lady who listened to their advice and challenged a cold-caller.

The centenarian alerted officers to a man purporting to be from a company carrying out surveys regarding the local shops.

Not happy with the caller, the lady politely declined to answer his questions and called police to carry out checks to make sure there was nothing suspicious from the view point of cold-calling.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “We were glad to do so, and on this occasion the caller thankfully turned out to be genuine, but it serves as a timely reminder to our elderly residents to not hesitate to call us if any reassurance is needed.

“This lady says if she can do it at 100 years old, so can you.

“Inspector Mc Bain was happy to pass on our birthday wishes and a bunch of flowers and congratulations to this lady for achieving this impressive milestone.”
