Cars and lorry stuck in drift snow as heavy snow continued overnight

Heavy snow has fallen overnight and is causing major issues on the roads across Co Armagh this morning (Friday).

As expected, the amber weather warning which remains in place until 11am has made road conditions impassable in many rural areas.

Police are advising motorists to make essential-only journeys this morning as main roads also remain treacherous.

They have highlighted a serious ongoing situation on the Drumlin Road in Donacloney – unlikely to be an isolated incident.

“The snow in our area hasn’t let up all night I’m afraid,” said the PSNI spokesperson.

“On the Drumlin Road, Donacloney there is currently an HGV and a few cars are stuck in a drift and recovery is on the way.

“Understandably the recovery teams are also working hard through the night and working to get to this lorry too.

“Roads service are in attendance and as soon as the vehicles are recovered, the road will be ploughed to allow access.

“Keep warm, keep safe and don’t chance it if you can help it.”

There are also a large number of school closures today, which can be found here or directly on your school’s website and social media.
