Appeal to fans over alleged assault during Glenavon and Ballymena match

Police are investigating an alleged assault during a football match.

A 16-year-old player sustained facial injuries which required hospital treatment at a midweek fixture.

The PSNI in Lurgan are appealing for information on the incident, which happened at Mourneview Park in Lurgan, where Glenavon were hosting Ballymena United on Wednesday, August 12.

Constable Colin Payne said it was reported that “an assault occurred during an ‘off the ball’ incident between two players”.

“This incident would have occurred in view of the people who attended the match and we would like to hear from any spectators who witnessed the assault or have information which may assist our investigation,” he said.

“We can be contacted in Lurgan on 101, quoting ref: 337 150815.”
